The second person is correct because I just watched this episode.

No. He ALMOST kills himself when he's Hitler, after he asked to be the leader of a country. It's frightening enough for him to make the final wish in which everything returns to normal.

The Dennis Hopper episode is an hour-long one. The other is a half-hour episode.

HE'S ALIVE **
Writer: Rod Serling
Director: Stuart Rosenberg
Cast: Dennis Hopper, Ludwig Donath, Curt Conway, Howard Caine,
Barnaby Hale, Paul Mazursky, Bernard Pein, Jay Adler

The "he" of this title refers to Adolf Hitler. A young
reactionary (Hopper) is guided by a shadowy figure on methods
to control and mesmerize the populace.

This site list episodes and has a synopis of each. It did not think this episode was very good. It was the only one that had "Hitler" in the synopsis. It does not sound like what you described, but it is common for people to confuse Alfred Hitchcock Presents or Night Gallery episodes with TZ, so it might be from one of those shows.
