Nope. I have two ferrets and they have never had fleas. There's no need to give a ferret flea meds if they don't have fleas-- you could harm the ferret if it's on meds it doesn't need. Your friend must have had a flea problem, just watch the ferret and if there's no fleas you don't have to worry.
Also, get ferret safe things-- stuff for dogs and cats isn't always safe for ferrets. Make sure it's specifically ferret safe.

Fleas can jump from animal to human and back to animal again. However, if you keep your ferret away from other animals and no fleas are around, there should be no problem with fleas. There are flea shampoos you can wash your ferret with. Wash their bedding in hot water separately from your wash. Clean the cage thoroughly. I believe fleas usually "gather" at the top of the tail on ferrets, just like dogs. Check their fur and skin. If there are red bumps, dark spots and a lot of itching, them most likely there are fleas. Best bet is to have the ferret checked and ask about the flea medicine.

We have 8 ferrets, the last one we'd adopted came with some fleas and they all had to be treated. We used a VERY small amount of Advantage for Kittens on them. (split one kitten dose tube between two ferrets). We only had to do it once and then life was good. Revolution is a flea, tick, heartworm, and a few other parasite prevenitive. I personally wouldnt reccoment pesticides, especially for dogs n cats on ferrets however always ask your vet. Thankfully ours are all hearty monsters and we had no problems.

I just use the Frontline spray. 2 or 3 spritzes once a month and they are good to go. I have no problems with fleas at all *knocks on wood*.
I don't know how safe Revolution is for ferrets. You might want to ask a vet about that.

Frankly...flea medicines for ferrets are a waste of time and money ESPECIALLY if your ferret does not go outdoors during 'flea season.' If you have dogs and cats make sure the dogs and cats are treated. It really isn't worth the risk of putting pesticide on such a small animal.

They put the ferret on it to protect it from heartworms, which they can get.
