when you really get on the gas it feels like its slipping similar to an automatic trans. when it slips. my mechanic took it for a test drive for only two feet and said the clutch was shot. i know my clutch isnt perfect but it still feels like it has for a long time. could it be something else or am i finally seeing the effects of a bad clutch?

Could be. You can confirm for yourself. Get up to 10-15 mph in 2nd or 3rd and put the gas to the floor. A good clutch will hold and the vehicle may chug or shudder a bit, but it will accelerate. If the clutch is slipping, the rpms will flair up. It will not accelerate very well.

Your clutch is probably shot! The reason the mechanic said it was shot is because you were so used to the way it was. I bet if you got in another car with a clutch, you would probably tell the difference. You might also be able to adjust it. Get a book on your truck and see if there is a way to adjust it. That's the best that I can suggest for you. Good Luck!!!

Sounds like the clutch. If it has been slipping long you will also need to replace the flywheel.
