First of all I was once a 120-lb model - I was slim, slender, thin, pick a picture.
I am now married, I have had several children and I have a medical problem that prevents weight loss.
While I do not miss being that thin (I was truly underweight), I do not enjoy being over weight. I have gone from a size 5/7 to a size 16/18 ... and while it took a few years to get to this size, it has taken me far longer to accept that I may not ever lose the weight. And before you ask, I have dieted - I was on task for over 6 months eating right, exercising daily, and of course, taking my meds. I lost 20 lbs pretty quickly, and then gained it all back. I kept plugging away - after 8 months, I was still about the same weight I was when I had started. Depression set in. I still eat right, I still exercise - I just have to come to terms that I am this size and will most likely remain this size.
And no matter how "nicely" anyone may say it out loud, we all know most people think any one my size is fat.
Honestly - Over weight on anyone is still over weight - whether it is evenly proportioned or not, whether it looks good or not.
For those who are able to lose the weight and simply choose not to, that is their choice - for those who work hard to lose the weight and simply cannot, there is no choice.
If we have to accept ourselves as we are, then others around us, be they friends, family or complete strangers, should have to respect it and us.
**All women are real women - skin & bones or more to love, a woman is a woman. She has feelings and she can love and be loved no matter her shape, size, look or even color.
Best Wishes

No, curves are nice and lots of women do look good with some more weight, but lots of the women who describe themselves with those words are really just downright overweight.
As a skinny girl, I despise that phrase "real women have curves" That is without a doubt one of the most stupid and most ignorant thing I've ever heard. Whatever, I guess that's the only way some people can feel better about themselves.

I'm a woman with curves and I think the term REAL WOMEN is out of line. My grandma was a small framed woman and she without a doubt was a real woman. She taught me how to be a real woman. When I hear some of those terms I think of a larger size person with a nice shape. I don't think it's a trick, we are hot. If I weighed 85 pounds I would be hot. It is all in how you look at yourself, not how others perceive you.

Either you are skinny and ugly, skinny and hot, fat and ugly, or fat and Hot. Yes, it is true some fat women and men are hot and some skinny men and women are ugly. Some times fatter is hotter, look at Al the news guy, he was so much hotter before the surgery. Subway guy hotter fat, Star hotter fat, Randy from Idol hotter fatter. I'm just sayin!

It means what it says, a woman who has a little extra weight. And what does it really matter. If that isn't what you like then don't date someone like that or marry someone like that. I don't like bald men and would never have dated or married one.
Of course look at Marilyn Monroe, she was 5'5" at her top weight, when she was seen a sex symbol she was 140lbs and wore a 14, that made her plus size, or should I say "curvy"

Well, I assure you that I'm a real, actual woman, and I'm slender. But I think where the "Reubenesque" description comes in is as a means to make larger women feel better about themselves.
But why shouldn't they? Evrybody deserves to feel good about themselves. We come in all shapes, sizes, and colors, and it takes every one of us to make the world go 'round.
