There is nothing in the law books prohibiting a wife from defending her spouse. She will, however, need to have a license to practice law. The only exception is when you defend yourself.

As a witness but not your legal representation unless she's a licensed lawyer. If she wasn't there when the dui happened, or events surrounding the arrest, then best she can be is a character witness, but a jury would obviously assume she has a bias.

The criminal syndicate that is the lawyer profession will prosecute your wife for unauthorized practice of law, unless she is one of them, and licensed in that state. They want you to spend $1000's on lawyer fees.

Criminal defendants outperform their slimeball public defenders when representing themselves. The lawyer criminal syndicate does not care. You must pay them.

If you are guilty, you should stop your drinking problem before hurting yourself and others. Take responsibility for your crimes, and rehabilitate yourself instead of going the weasel route. If a lawyer sets you entirely free, he may not be doing you such a favor.

the wife can be an eyewitness, or perhaps a "character" witness to talk about how he is a good person and never has endangered people and wouldn't do a DUI... if the judge allows the witness to do this.

Yes, that is legal. The wife needs to be an attorney.
