I wish I could have my great-grandmother here. She died shortly before I was born and I know this upset my mum greatly as she loved her so much. My mum had a hard unbringing and her grandmother was a real source of inspiration for her. In fact, I was named after her. My mum still speaks about her with such love and affection even 24 years on.

Ah, Father, "when Irish eyes are crying, sure they'll steal your heart away!" My mom's mom, known as "Grammer" taught me how to read. I did listen to her, but in those days children did not have many distractions. And we were poor. She was a tough little Catholic convert. While we can't bring any of our loved ones back, we can reach out to others we meet now. I do that, and find it does me and others a world of good. Best to you, from me.

None of my really close family has gone yet and although a few of my friends have gone...I don't find that I'm missing any of them.
This feeling could be because they were in pain and I was some how glad that their suffering had ended.
I think about them but I never wish that they were still here...
Is that strange?

Well Father, It's been a while since my last confession.

I wish my grandparents were here.

You see, Father. I didn't appreciate my grandparents when I was younger. I was an abrasive, rebellious, stubborn young man, and now that I'm older I understand more, I'm patient, calm, mature, and better adjusted to life. I'd tell them how much I love them, and I'd try and be a better grandson, and friend to them.
