A rectangle pane of glass measuring 12 inches by 18 inches is surrounded by a wooden frame that is 2 inches wide.What is the area of the window including the frame?

The length of the glass includding the wooden frame
=18+2+2=22 inches
The width of the glass incuding the wooden frame
=12+2+2=16 inches
Therefore,the area of the window including the frame
=22*16
=352 inches^2

The frame adds 4 inches to the width and length of the pane of glass so 12 + 4 and 18 + 4.
Area = length * width = 16 * 22 = 352 inches squared

The frame adds 2 inches on every side, so it would be 2 inches at the top, bottom, left, and right. Now the dimensions are actually 12 + 2 + 2 = 16 by 18 + 2 + 2 = 22. 16 X 22 = 352.
352 square inches. Draw a picture with these geometry problems - it really helps.

Hi,
Well, we know that the ara of a rectangle is this:
A = LW
Now, the frame is 2 inches wide, and the frame width is added to the length and width twice since it is on both sides of the length and the top and bottom of the width. So, we have this
A = (18+2*2)*(12+2*2)
=22*16
= 352 sq. in

if the frame is two inches wide it should add 2 inches to each side of the rectangle of the 4 sides
makind the 12 inches 16inches
and 18 inches will become 22 inches
then Area = LxB
16x22=352 inches^2
yeah it adds 2 inches but each side covers two parts of the frame
the length covers the right side and the left side of the frame as well
and the hight covers the top and bottom
so each side adding 2 inches it makes a total of 4 to each lengh and hieght

I agree with CCW but he made a mistake
18 +2 +2 = 22 not 20... so the final answer would be 352 square inches
