I know The Alamo had em and that was 61 or so.

While some theaters opted to break Lord of the Rings into two segments, the last movie to actually be produced with an intermission was Ben Kingsley's Oscar-winning part- and the Oscar winner for Best Picture-"Gandhi"-1982.

Overtures have been used more as they were in the Star Wars anthology--as rolling titles offered narratives, the music played...

Fiddler on the Roof ('71) had an intermission. I think The Godfather Part II did ('74).

The Beatles "Help!" had a very brief intermission and "Jesus Christ Superstar" had an overture.

when i went to see Lord of the Rings : The Fellowship there was an intermission - but that might have just been because my towns cinema is tiiiny. :))
