Event planning is part of public relations, and anything which deals with that might be appropriate. In most schools, that would be either communications or marketing. I teach marketing, and I know that we have had a number of students go into the event planning field. It is, however, one of those fields in which you may end up not using a lot of your education, because what is really most important is being organized and reliable, things which can't be taught.

you might want to major in PR (public relations), marketing, humanities. Anything dealing with studying people.

media relations, Public relations, and even Administrative assistant all come to mind.
