Striping is the "easy" way of telling them apart - the percula is to have a black band between the white and orange/red, but it doesn't always work (ocellaris can also have a thin black band). The correct method for separating the species is to count the number of rays in the front part of the dorsal fin. percula has 10 spines in the first dorsal fin and ocellaris has 11.


(Yeah, right, all you have to do is to get the fish to stay still so you can count them - see why people "guess' by using the color and thickness of the stripes!)

you got yourself a false percula (Ocellaris) and you can tell somewhat by the coloring and false percs have 11 dorsal fin spines and true percs have 10

May i say you have a beautiful false perc looks like my female
