my kids never got gifts when they god dedicated.
If you want to. Bring a rose or some flowers.
Or a small piece of jewlery if it is a girl.
Or put a small note with a pic of the baby in the newspaper congratulating.
A silver cup with the name ingraved is nice too
A little pink bible for a girl and a little blue for a boy with their names enscribed on it.
Or do like I do.....give nothing

How or why would it not be customary to thank people for gifts? I think it would be extremely rude if you did not send thank you cards. What does religion have to do with anything? If anything, a religious event should be even MORE likely to send thank you's as you should be trying to set an example. You received a gift. It doesn't matter what it's for. It's proper etiquette to send a thank you. Plus, do you not send Christmas or Easter cards? No offense, but what type of event does your Mom think those are?

Hello Friend,
I think you must try a personalized baby gift to make your gift most memorable one for your new born cousin.

this is not traditional but what about a savings bond. i get them for nieces and nephew at every holiday instead of the usual toys (they get so much). I think they will appreciate it when they get older and have them. congrats
