Because God created it and it is as infinite as he is.

this is one of the most, if not the most, common view of the universe. that it is a 4 dimensional object, that is at the same time infinite and finite. so basically it has and end, but there is nothing beyond it. ill explain why this makes sense.

The big bang theory says that the primevil atom exploded and when it did that released so much raw energy that it actually created space and time. so the expansion of space would have to have a speed, because nothing is instantaneous thats quite impossible. so there has to be a point where space stops, and when space stops you cant go any further, there is nothing. thats different from there being no matter. having no space is like having 1 atom, but no where to put it.

so if there is a definate boundry to space then there has to be something beyond it, and there would have to be a spot you cant go any further, this is also impossible. because nothing can be beyond the limit of space because theres, obviously, no space. and there cant just be a wall that you hit and cant go any further, that just illogical, no credible scientist believes that. so what is the universe expanding into?

the only answer that allows all of that to be true is that the universe is 4 dimensional. so if you went in a shuttle forever in one direction you would never reach the end, you would just end up right back where you started (this is not a sphere, its a hypersphere which is a 4 dimensional sphere. if it were a sphere there would have to be something outside of it).

a good example of a 4 dimensional object like this (its not really 4 dimensional, but its has a property of 4 dimensional objects, it doesnt have an end) is a mobius strip.
take a piece of paper and cut and inch long strip, then twist it 180 degrees (so it looks like DNA does) and then tape the 2 ends together. you can now take a pencil or pen and start at the taped end end draw a line one direction. you will draw the line on both sides and end up back where you started.

if that was to confusing im sure you can go on google and type in mobius strip and it will tell you how to make it.

This subject falls exactly in the realm of Theoretical Physics and Astro-Physics. Albert Einstein for one, is a Theoretical Physicist. There are a lot of theories explaining the existence and behavior of outer space and universe, with a lot of mathematical formulas to describe them. But then, they all remain theories, with no actual proof as to their realities. And some of these theories are even in contradiction or tends to refute other theories.

Most scientists agree that the universe is currently expanding. But whether there is a limit to this expansion is still the subject of different theories. Some theories says that it will continue to expand forever without end. Some theories says that the universe will expand up to a certain point, then start shrinking and collapsing unto itself (Big Bang Theory and Big Crunch Theory).

There are some theories that says that the universe is infinite and limitless, while some theories also says the opposite, that the universe has limits or boundaries. Some theories even says that there is not only one universe, but many universes (multi-verses) that exist simultaneously (parallel universes).

Even in our space age where we have highly advanced technology in computers, internet, space exploration, nuclear technology, our science is still in its very infancy to be able to satisfactorily explain the things that are addressed by your question. But someday in the very distant future when the answer to your question is already a known fact, then probably we can also answer the question "can we travel backward or forward through time?".

Some human brains can grasp the concept of infinity. Apparently, some cannot.

The space available into which the expansion of the stuff in he universe can expand is infinite. The exact nature of that infinity is open to speculation.

The stuff (galaxies, stars, strings, dark matter... whatever) in the universe seems to be finite... It's larger than most can imagine, it's beginning and end are open to conjecture.

People traditionally blame things that they incapable of understanding on a deity. For some reason they can accept the existence of something without a scintilla of physical proof, but something they can actually see, they cannot accept.

According to the big bang theory, there is an end to space, it is continually expanding from the original big bang. It does have an end, an ever expanding end, but an end none the less.

I don't have an answer but all that space stuff is just mind boggling. They say if you could travel fast enough you could catch up to the light waves from past times and watch past history in space. Same thign with time travel and stuff like that. Almost impossible to wrap your mind around even if you were able to understand the science.

There is an end to space, but the real question is what's beyond space? Where space ends is where mystery begins.

I think it has to be something else out there but anyway if there is some kind of ending what is behind that ending just some kind of wall???? still not found.

there is an end to space, however, the space "exist" as soon as there is matter occupying it. in other words, the universe is creating space to accommodate itself.

Well, we don't know do we? We haven't reached that level of scientific ability to go that far out yet, or to even see that far. But I'm reasonably certain of one thing... . we aren't in any danger of going over the edge LOL.

There are different theorys out right now, and one suggests the universe is forever expanding
