Actually, these aren't options in all MBA programs - we don't have an accounting option at the MBA level. As I mentioned in my other message, the MBA is not intended for government jobs. In the private sector, there are certain assumptions - for example, those in Finance tend to earn more than those in Human Resources. But that often has to do with the types of employers who hire them. A job on Wall Street is more lucrative than one in a small manufacturing company, in most cases. So when it comes to government jobs, you need to think about what it is that you want to do for the government, and which skills might be most useful. Some traditional MBA skills, such as finance, may not be a very good fit with most of what the government does. I would still guess that someone who might be hired with quantitative skills would be paid more than someone with only people skills, but I would guess that there are a lot more jobs in the latter category. Since you seem to have a particular type of job in mind, you need to know what they are looking for, not which discipline "pays the most".

Why do you need an MBA to get a job with a government branch? Even the IRS doesn't require anything more than a Bachelors with a certain number of accounting credits. If you think it will make you more competitive you are wrong. There are people who will have the same or a similar degree as yours who have also served in the Military or have job experience.
