Nothing says that you HAVE to wear tampons. (Just don't go swimming without one). When inserted correctly, you don't feel it at all. I'm not sure about the 45 degree angle, but you should point it slighty upwards towards your lower back. And read the directions. You can also try begingirl.com or tampax.com for more info.

Don't worry honey it is Totally ok to be nervous about using tampons for the first time. That's natural and trust me it will pass quickly as soon as you are used to it. :)

For starting out you want to get tampons with plastic applicators and with low absorbency. Both Tampax and Playtex makes them. I like Playtex Gentle Glide myself. It is a good idea to buy a small bottle of k-y lotion with the tampons to help with inserting just in case. Here is some advice that I gave before for how to use tampons:

OK find a position where you will be comfy and be able to relax your muscles. It can be sitting on the toilet, standing with a foot on the toilet or bath tub or (what I do) crouching down with your knees apart. Maybe even curling up in your bed the first time just so you can get the hang of it in a less stress and less tense situation. You may want to insert a finger so you have a feel for the way you curve.

Then with one hand spread your lips with your fingers and with your other hand gently press the tampon into your vagina at an angle back until your fingers touch the skin. If you are having trouble getting it in try wiggling it or turning it a little while you are inserting to get it past the lower vaginal muscles. You can also use for lubrication a little k-y on the tip of the tampon or if you can't get that than just wet it with your mouth.

Once your fingers holding the tampon are touching your skin than use your other hand to push the applicator tube in to put the tampon itself in place. Then just gently withdraw the applicator.

You change them based on your menstrual flow..how fast they fill. In the early part of your period you may change them every 2h but on lighter days it may be as few as 6h. One way to tell is to check whenever you go to the bathroom for spotting and pull the string a bit for if it feels like should be changed. Whatever you don't leave a tampon in for more than 8 hours and a 6 hour limit may not be a bad idea for you starting out.

Best wishes and I hope this helps. Please feel free to email me if you like :)

No one says you have to wear a tampon at all. You do whatever you feel comfy with.
Read the instructions that come with a pack of tampons, use a hand held mirror and explore down below. Take your time, find a position that feels comfy for you, relax and insert as per the instructions.

They are nothing to be scared of. Once you get used to them, you will never wear a pad again. You feel so much cleaner, and no one can tell that you are wearing one, and as long as you don't wear them for more than 8 hours they are totally safe.
