They prefer meat.
Try hot dogs, raw fish (any boneless, non breaded), a feeder goldfish, luncheon meat (ham turkey or chicken),
and Reptomin Turtle Sticks.

RES will eat meat and/or vegetables Do not feed it egg shells. Try carrots, apples, whole kernel corn, peas, melons such as canteloupe and mush mellons. Peaches, grapes.. For meat they will eat earth worms, blood worms, Canned cat food, boiled chicken, little pieces of hot dogs. For whatever reason your RES does not like lettuce. It's not a big deal. Also he might like hard boiled eggs. I have fostered several and they all like different things. Nearly all of them DID like eating pinkies. If it's moving they will go after it.

They don't eat freaking lettuce, that's the deal.
Where do people get this?
Baby red ears, in the wild, eat primarily aquatic invertebrates, and whatever fish they can scavenge. as they get older, they also consume aquatic vegetation.
Not lettuce, egg shells, fruit, or carrots.
In captivity, feed them minnows, earthworms, and insects.
