cos, tan, or sin?
while flying a kite, doris let out 400 feet of string. assuming that the string is streched taut and it makes an angle of 48 degrees with the ground, find the nearest foot how high the kite is.

is it sin?

yes -- sin is opposite / hypotenus

so:

sin(48) = height/400'

h = 400 sin 48 = 297.26 ft

I believe it is sin.

My teacher taught me a really neat trick to remember when to do sin, cos, and tan. You use the word SOH-CAH-TOA. Soh stands for sin, opposite over hypotonuse. Cah stands for cos, adjacent side over hypotonuse. Toa stands for tan, opposite over adjacent. Hope this helps!
