I need to solve for x

5/2x - 6/5 = 3/5x + 6

I think the answer is 72/19, but I am not sure as it's been many years since I've did this type of math.

Assume question is meant to be:-
(5/2) x - 6/5 = (3/5) x + 6
25 x - 12 = 6 x + 60
19 x = 72
x = 72 / 19

5/2x - 6/5 = 3/5x + 6
5/2x-3/5x=6+6/5 =36/5
25/10x -6/10x = 36/5
19/10x= 36/5
x = 36/5*10/19 = 72/19

I have assumed that 5/2x means (5/2) x= 2.5 x, and that it does not mean 5/(2x).

First: eliminate fractions - multiply the greatest common denominator (2*5*5x = 50x) with each term.

(50x)(5/2x)-(50x)(6/5) = (50x)(3/5x)+(50x)(6)

*Cross cancel the same terms; combine the rest.

(50)(5/2)-(50x)(6/5) = (50)(3/5)+(50x)(6)
250/2-300x/5 = 150/5+300x
125 - 60x = 30 + 300x

Sec: subtract 300x from both sides (when you move a term to the opposite side, always use the opposite sign).

125 - 60x-300x = 30 + 300x-300x
125 - 360x = 30 (add 125 to both sides).
125-125 - 360x = 30-125
- 360x = - 95

Third: isolate "x" - divide both sides by -360.

(- 360x)/-360 = - 95/(-360)
x = 95/360
x = 19/72

P.S. Tim also has the same solution. If you plug in 19/72, both sides will be equal.

Multiply each term by 10x

25 - 12x = 6 + 60x
19 = 72x
x = 72/19

two options if
5x/2 - 6/5 = 3x/5 + 6
5x/2 - 3x/5 = 6 + 6/5
(25x - 6x)/10 = 36/5
(25x - 6x) = 72
19 x = 72
x = 72/19

other option
5/(2x) - 3/(5x) =6+6/5
(25 - 6)/(10x) = (30+6)/5 = 36/5
19 / (10x) = 36/5
19(5) = 36(10) x . . . . . cross multiply
19 = 36 x
x = 19/36

SHOWS HOW EVERYONE HERE MESSED UP!
IF THIS IS WRONG! USE PARENTHESIS WHEN ASKING THE QUESTION!
5/2x- 6/5 = 3/5x + 6
x(5/2x- 6/5) = x(3/5x + 6)

5/2 -6x/5 = 3/5+6x
5/2 - 3/5 ={ 6+(6/5) } x
x = ((5/2) -(3/5)) / (6+ (6/5))
x= 1.9 / 7.2
x = 19/72

IF MY ASSUMPTION IS CORRECT
YOU SHOULD HAVE HAD
(5/2)x - 6/5 = (3/5)x +6
(2.5 -.6)x = 6+(6/5)
1.9x = 7.2
x = 72 / 19

multiply everything by 10x to get
25-12x=6+60x
19=72x

I'm a little curious as to why you "need" to solve this equation, even though "it [has] been many years" since you've worked with "this type of math", which, BTW, is called, "algebra".

Are you SURE you used this kind of math?

I mean, it's kinda hard to forget a word like, "Algebra", dude!
