for a secret security clearance for military, will they do a single scope background information? in other words, for secret clearance will they go searching in your background asking people you knew in the past about you?

That depends on your relationship with the government and the level of security. Top Secret clearance usually require extensive background checks; not just criminal record. Military personnel usually breeze through the process, but civilians might have tougher time getting the same level of clearance.

Secret's fairly easy to get as long as you're obviously not a terrorist. TS is more of a big deal...

I had one years ago and they check everything back to your school days, anyone you list plus family, neighbors and your financial situation/obligations..they don't want anyone in serious debt..a big party type.."loose lips sink ships", so to say..
