Because it's body and organs take that long to fully develop.

If you are talking about a baby "human", are you kidding? Take a look at what one looks like after only 3 months. We humans are not "equipped" to care for something so small. Lungs are not even mature until about 7 months. I would guess that is because of our complex brains.

Because it takes that long for the bun in the oven to be thoroughly done.
(It IS more like 3 months for some other creatures out there, but imagine being pregnant for almost TWO YEARS like an elephant. Then consider that 9 months would be a BREEZE.)

I think it should take much longer, because some folks brains aren't fully developed even at 30, some even with a wall full of diplomas, thet are still, "just out to lunch"

The development and growth of a human just takes that long. However, a 3 mo. gestation period (if possible) would be really awesome for us women!!
