50 States is enough!! Taiwan belonged to China and China still views Taiwan as part of their country, so we have no business there and we should have never promised to defend Taiwan. Should China tell us what to do with Texas?

Absolutely!

Of all the countries in the world, the US is the country which has the most responsibility to deal with the Taiwan issue.

Why? Because Taiwan's sovereignty is in the America's hands.

It all goes back to the end of WW2. When the US conquered Japan, the US was the principal occupier. Taiwan was a legal possession of Japan. The US delegated the accepting of the surrender of Japanese forces on Taiwan to Generalissimo Chiang Kai Shek (the ROC). The ROC occupied Taiwan on behalf of the US. But they did not transfer sovereignty to them then or at any time since. Taiwan's difficulties today in international politics, joining the UN, etc. all stem from the fact that the ROC does not hold territorial title to theTaiwan territory.

The most crucial legal basis for Taiwan's sovereignty is the San Francisco Peace Treaty of 1952 between Japan and the allies. An international treaty, ratified by congress is the highest law of the land, equal in legal force to the constitution itself.
In the treaty, Japan ceded Taiwan without naming a recipient. The treaty also clearly named the US as the principal occupier. This makes the US directly responsible for Taiwan. From 1952 up to the present and into the indefinite future, the US holds the territorial sovereignty of Taiwan in trust. That means that The USA owns Taiwan, more or less.

The US NEVER transferred the sovereignty of Taiwan to the ROC.

The ROC is NOT the legal government of Taiwan. The ROC is a government in exile of China.

China has no claim to Taiwan whatsoever. Not the ROC and certainly not the PRC.

The US should be supporting the Taiwanese people in ejecting the ROC and in creating their own government. The Taiwanese people have the right to self determination.

Taiwan should have been independent in the 1940's. But America used Taiwan for their own cold war purposes. America is directly responsible for the mess Taiwan is in today and should be doing something about it.

We should and it should be on the side of Taiwan but the Bush Administration has sold so much of our nations future to Red China that we will never be able to make the moral stand we need to on this matter

Well, we did promise Taiwan didn't we? China only just manages to keep its foot in the civilized door by way of Taiwan and Hong Kong. For now, they ain't gonna screw that up. They like playing in the UN, the communist bastards, and the UN just loves 'em right back.

We thought we did until the dragon woke-up and flew across the sky (around the world). Now we send the Dragon offering so it won't bite us.

Taiwan? Maybe we will hang the leaders of that little Island too ....if China ask us to do it.

The only role we should have with those 2 countries is to stop importing and buying their crap. Our trade deficit is thru the roof while they prosper!
