An old timer in the auto chemicals sales told me it was just sugar water---try mixing up some sugar and warm water until it's dissolved and spray on the tires....I'd start with 2 or 3 tablespoons in a quart of water and see how it works...never tried it myself but this guy that told me the secret sure knew his business. Most cleaning supplies and automotive detailing sprays are just natural ingredients mixed a certain way.

Old timers used ATF (automatic transmission fluid) for a variety of purposes, including shining the tires. I've also seen tires looking pretty good after being sprayed with black vinyl paint.

Before there was such a thing and few people cared about this "thing", they used (drum roll) good old Vaseline petroleum jelly.

Some would use clear spray paint but this yellows and flakes off with age.

The same stuff you spray on belts to make them stop squeaking works good, too.

Good Luck!
