They're capable of living for 9 years, but 3-5 is most common if they're kept under the proper conditions. I keep mine in 2.5 or 5 gallon tanks (mini-bows mostly, although I now have one in a 5 gallon hex tank). I also use a filter (Red Sea nanofilters, since these have adjustable flow rates - male bettas don't swim well against a strong current with their long fins) and 50 watt heater (water temperature should be 76-86, although I tend to keep mine at 76-80o unless breeding). I also use gravel, a small piece of driftwood, and a few plants (live or silk).

I feed primarily pellets, but also use "treats" of frozen bloodworms and daphnia, plus some live mosquito larvae on ocassion.

This website will give you some very good info on their care and housing: http://www.bettatalk.com/

My son's betta is almost 2 years old. We use tap water but since we live in the city we make sure that we put a few drops of stuff in the water to get rid of the chlorine and other chemicals that are put in to the cities drinking water. THOSE CHEMICALS WILL KILL THE FISH. We have just a small bowl and we feed it betta food. You can even get that at walmart. Also don't put your Betta infront of a mirror. it will see the other fish reflected in it and try to attack it. My mother killed her's that way.

2-4 years
A small bowl with purified water supply will work. Change the water in the bowl 1-2 times per week. Marbles or aquarium gravel at the bottom. Beta are carnivorous so food should be tubifex or blood worms purchased at a pet store. This is a very basic set-up, but will work just fine. A larger aquarium may be used. Just don't keep more than 1 beta in a tank.

My Betta fish lived for 5 years! They last a very long time. If your thinking about buying one, buy one from your local pet store. Not from Walmart! Hope I Helped!

Usually about one year long. I had two and they lived for about a year and 3 months. You need food (usually at places like PetSmart or PetsCo, perferably the food specifically for betas) clean NOT SALTED water (from the sink is fine) at room temp. DO NOT PUT TWO OF THE SAME GENDER TOGETHER! They will fight and kill each other! Just a warning. and of course a tank big enough for them, with optional plastic trees, but you really should get some rocks to line the bottom with. Hope this helps!

That depends on how you take care of them...I have had my betta for over two years. A couple of tips: Always use distilled water, feed it once a day, change the water every two weeks...Worked for me...

like a year is how long mine lived i think. You just need pellets of food and...a water bowl. that's about it. you'll need a spare bowl for when you clean the poop. you put the fish in the spare bowl. and empty out the tank.

There active life expectancy is usually 12months but they have been known to live for 3-6years it all depends on water quality and how you care for them really.
