You can choose how you deal with your reality. You can let it drag you down or you can try to balance the stress from authority or a boring or demanding job by developing your own sense of worth by learning a new skill or contributing in some way to your community.

Because in life 'we' are able to decide on a mode of behavior each and every second of the day.

Humans 'de facto' make a multitude of decisions out of inumerable choices and that final arbitrater of the last decision could not come about without free will.

Humans, again, 'de facto', without freewill, could not make any choice at all and would simply respond to the environment as automatons, like paramecium or ants.

My freewill enables me to 'problem solve', so that if I cannot fly then I build a flying machine, if I cannot travel through space then I build a space ship. My freewill enables me to predict a future event, such as what would happen if I rob a bank or jump off a cliff, and 'a priori' it can be determined and decided upon (the answer being no).

By the very multitude of decisions I make on an hourly basis and that I make the best possible choice is proof that I have free will, or else those decisions could not be made.

The only reason in the world I am anwsering these questions in my spare time is because I want to, and no other reason. A further demonstration of my free will.

If you do not take advantage of the free will we have in this life, you sure won't escape and find it anywhere else. This is it! You could be in prison and still have the free will to forgive, learn, heal, deal. If the authority you refer to is the law, well, free will can only work for the good if there are rules to protect the innocent. Perhaps you need to set some goals for your life, then use your free will to attain them. Also, think about the principles you want to live by, then use your free will to get there. Good Luck!

First, if you are unwilling to escape authority, that is a choice. There are always way to avoid any authority. From a parent, teacher, a friend, a girl/boyfriend, law, society, etc. We can make that choice.

The larger philosophical issue is that of view life as boring, a rut, uninteresting, unhappy and no fun. These are only perceptions.

Suggestions:

Learn to tolerate, accept and then love.

Learn to love boredom as much as you love fun.
Learn to love unhappiness as much as you love being happy.
Learn to love the uninteresting as much as you love excitement and curiosity.

It isn't easy, but what a difference it makes.

It is night. Two prisoners convicted for life are in a dark cell. Both are looking towards the window.

One can only see the thick and formidable bars and the shadows they make on the floor. He despairs.

One is able to look past the bars and can see twinkling stars in the heavens. He hopes.

The despairing one believes that he will rot there and die.

The hoping one believes he will someday get out.

Same situation. Two outlooks.

What we believe is what we get.

Predict the ending of this story.
