First you need to check the spark. Pull the sparkplug out, leave the wire on and with it touching the head pull the starter. If there is no spark you may have to replace the ignition module. Make sure the spark plug is clean or replace it.

Next would be the fuel. Check the air filter to make sure it is clean or replace it. There is a fuel filter in the gas tank on the end of one of the two lines. Make a hook in a piece of wire and fish it out. Make sure it is clean or replace it.

With the spark plug back in, pull the starter cord slowly. Does it have spots that are harder to pull or is it totally smooth? If it is smooth you may not have any compression. That would mean installing new piston rings.

Next would be to rebuild the carburetor. It is an easy job and a rebuild kits costs about $12. It comes with instruction on how to put it back together. This is the most common problem with these small engines.
