Juice is generally recommended for older babies, about 7-9 months, who can drink it from a cup. Formula or breast milk are all the fluids a baby requires until about 6 months. After solids are introduced and have become a consistent part of a baby's diet, a little water at meals and snacks helps digestion. If a parent decides to introduce juice, a limit of 4-6 ounces per day is a good idea. All juice, even 100% juice, is high in calories and sugar content and should be consumed in moderation. Too much juice can fill up tiny tummies so the baby will not drink enough breast milk or formula to get adequate nutrition. Older babies who are eating solids can fill up on juice and not consume enough solid food. I suggest that you wait until your baby is drinking from a cup before introducing a little juice. Diluting all juice at least 1/2 water and 1/2 juice is a good idea.

kids bodies can handle juice at different ages. but at 5 months the best thing to do would be dilute the juice with 3/4 water. maybe twice a day. and keep an eye on the stool of the baby. if it is giving him the runs then try once a day. if he handles it well then slowly give him a little bit more maybe three times a day and then after about a week start mixing it half and half 2 eight oz glasses is enough for a baby of five months. becasue the juice isn't as inportant as the formula or breast milk right now.

At 5 months I would advise holding off on the apple juice unless the baby "needs" it (is constipated, and you are sure that he is constipated!), Apple juice is very acidic, so even if baby needs it dilute it with water. 1 part juice to 1 part water. Even if this is the case (the constipation) I would go with pear juice. Pear has more fiber and is less acidic. Still dilute the same way! I didn't begin ANY juice until my baby begain drinking from a cup close to regularly (recently at 8 months). However, I still dilute due to the fact that my son has GERD. If you give juice in the bottle you run the risk of baby refussing formula or breast milk. Because the juice is sweeter, they will only want the juice in the bottle. At 5 months they still need to be getting a majority of their nutrients from the breast milk or formula. Hope this helps!

I would say yes the baby can have juice, but you don't want to over-do it....because it can act as a laxitive if the baby had too much in a day. Just give juice as a supplemental bottle....you don't have to weaken it, but you can. Like a 4 oz juice ...and fill the bottle with added water to make a whole bottle....or just give the 4 oz...whichever you want. 5 month is plenty old enough and the baby will enjoy it.

You should not be giving your 5 month old baby juice! All that baby should be drinking is formula and eating some cereal and baby foods. Juice is not a good thing to start so young... it's not good for them. If you are worried about him getting enough fruits, give him more baby food fruit. I am assuming that you are giving it to him in a bottle and that isn't good for his gums/teeth either. My daughter did not get a sip of juice til she was 2 years old. And she still only gets it on special occasions. My advice would be to wait as long as possible before giving your children any juice at all.

They sell juice that is diluted already (Great if you don't have a filter on your sink). My son's doctor said at 6 months to give no more than 4 oz of diluted (2 oz water, 2 oz juice) daily.

I am raising a granddaughter who was born premature. Because of this she has had some digestive problems. Instead of putting her on any medication, her doctor told me I could give her 2 oz of juice diluted with 2 oz of water per day. She was 2 months old when we started her and she had no problems with it at all.

I think it is normal. When my daughter was around the same age, she would go every 5 hours as well, and i believe she was at 7 ounces of formula. Then she went back to 3 hours. It all depends if they are going through a growing spurt.
