By shutting all the pressure around you out for a while to discover who you really are. I think once you find who you truely are, you will earn self-respect. But to do that you have to live the way you want to.

I'd start off with the question; ''why do I need/want self respect in the first place?'' I believe the answer to that question might very well also be the answer to your question.

You can't.

Respect can be facilitated by being honest and consistent. I lack respect for people who lie to me, or attempt to manipulate.

Even if you are honest and consistent, it is still something within in me that makes the decision to respect you, or to disrespect you. I have no control over that decision that another may make about me.

If you ever find yourself feeling disrespect, remember that the person has made a decision and an action to express disrespect.

I conclude with the notion that not everything that we feel is disrespect is actually disrespect. Disrespect is a highly subjective call.
