You better turn it off. I have a new computer and I have left it on for too long, its goes too slow and one of the ports is not working properly. In my opinion, leave it on during the day and turn it off at night so the computer has time to cool down and doesn't overload things. Have a great day. Rock.

Turning your computer on and off is actually harder on your hard drive and other components inside your computer.
Think of your computer as a light switch, by turning it on and off, it will wear out faster than if you left it on all the time.
As long as there are no obstructions restricting air flow, and the fan is working properly, leaving your computer on all the time will not hurt it.
I do suggest tho, that because restore points are ONLY created when Windows shuts down, shut your computer down at least once a month, to create the needed restore points.

That's actually quite a complicated issue, in turning it off and on you can cause more wear and tear to drives etc than if you just leave them idling. Also I was told by a hardware engineer that leaving them on makes the soldered connections warm and improves the contact thus making it work better, switching off makes the connections cool and can cause them to fracture but, leaving it on could also make some components overheat or even melt !
However, if you are visiting lots of sites and using several different programs then you will find, after a time that your computer response becomes slower and less reliable and a reboot is required to clear it.
Also as we are supposed to be being environmentally friendly we should switch them off to use less power.
Basically I think it boils down to switch it off or don't - whichever you prefer.

Well you should shut it off if it has been on for a very long time. I heard that your computer can run very hot and it is best to turn it off especially if it has been on almost all the day. Shut it down for at least three hours and give it time to cool off. Give the computer a rest and let it cool down.

a lot of people say that its better to leave the computer on and constantly going, i personally find that after leaving my computer on for a long period of time, my computer starts to show signs of slowing down. i'd say leave it on during the day and shut it down before you go to bed.

leaving the computer on for a too long amount of time can make it hot probably even give the Internet/computer a virus. put the computer on standby. standby gives the computer resting time rather then just completely shutting it down.
