Screen savers are pretty much to look cool and perhaps add a layer of security (by locking the PC when the screen saver kicks in).

I don't bother with one, I just have my monitor set to turn off after a while of not using it so I'm not powering it for no reason.

LCD Monitors do NOT burn in! It is 100% not necessary to use a screen saver in order to preserve the clarity of the LCD picture.

However, Screen Savers will allow you to use less electricity when the computer is not being used, which keeps the electric bill down.

The best thing you can do in any event, is to turn the display off when it is not in use. This way, you never have to use a screen saver for any reason!
