It wasn't a tandem bike but I tried Riding on the pegs with my boy, one night....Needless to say it didn't turn out well, for me.

Many years ago.
However, about a week ago I went outside and saw 4 teen-age boys riding a bike down the street. I could see that they had somehow put two bikes together and it was really long. Pretty soon they began to weave and lose control and the bike fell over. One tire ended up twisted like a pretzel and 2 guys were under the bike. By this time other neighbors were out and howling with laughter. The boys laughed too.
