If your lease says "No Pets" then your only option if you wish to stay is to get rid of the cat. There is no inherent right to keep a pet unless your lease states so. Sorry!

If you are in violation of the terms of your lease then I'm not sure there is anything you can do. I'm sure that you knew pets were not allowed when you signed the lease. My husband and I managed 5 apartment buildings my father owned and we allowed certain types of small pets. We also asked our tenants about their pets and told them of our policy as well. I really think that you just need to get into a new apartment, and this time find one that accepts pets. Good luck to you!

I know you hate to hear this but if it says no pets then you are in violation of your lease. Sounds like you would be better off at another community anyway. If the landlord is making you leave you will not be liable for your lease. Make sure that you get released from your lease in writing. If you just "skip" out then the landlord can try to charge you for the length of your lease. Make the landlord serve you a 3 day notice to vacate due to violation. As long as you move within the 3 day period you are not liable for any more rent as the landlord decided to void the rental agreement due to your violation.
Good Luck!

Sounds like the cat was outside the building! Not inside the building. I would try to move. If they have a policy about cats-it gets painful if you want one-been through it all the way to the state level and lawsuits. Not worth the money-you are still going to want to get away from idiots! Someone trys to run over one of my pets and I'm going to be livid! So it's not a healthy place. MOVE! and be happy the landlord has a reason to send you along your way, just be sure your next one loves animals! Then they will understand your position and all will be fine! Good Luck

Check whatever papers you signed prior to moving in. If they state that there is a "No Pets Allowed" policy, than you are out of luck. If your rental agreement, does not state that you cannot have pets, you can fight your eviction.

If you are being forced to move, offer to get rid of the cat if staying is that important to you. Please make sure to find a suitable home for the animal first though!

I own a few ramshackle dumps that i rent out, and when i find out there is a pet, i kick them out.
pets will at some point, pee or doo doo on the carpet, i hate them, i cant stand them.
they get fleas too, and usually when they do, the only thing you can do is rip the carpet out.
