how often do i fead my damselfish while doing cycling process?(saltwater)?

also i just starded my cycling process with 3 fish as 3 stripe damsels. my hp is 7.8, 1.023, f 80. n i have crust coral . i want to know how often do i test my water ? as every week or more because im cycling . please let me know

It's best to just feed them as normal. It's the ammonia from their wastes that the bacteria use for the cycling, so to feed less could produce less bacteria than you should have initially. Then when you increase the feedings, there won't be enough bacteria for the amount of waste that's produced, and it'll extend the cycling time of the tank. Just watch the ammonia and nitrite levels so they aren't too high for your fish during the process - do a partial change whenever you see the levels approaching 0.5 ppm or so.

As far as how often to check, I'd do this at least every day to every other day until you get a feel for how quickly the levels change in your tank. Then you could conceivable cut back to once or twice a week, preferably about 3 days following a water change and another 1-2 days after the first test if the levels don't increase that fast. A large part of how often you'll need to do changes will be a result of your tank size and amount you feed. Also, watch your fish's behavior as you do the testing. They'll react by swimming at the surface, becoming lethargic, or not eating as the ammonia and nitrite levels increase. Not that I necessarily suggest using the behavior as the only way to tell when a change is needed - if the fish are reacting in any of these ways they're already stressed - but it can prevent a disaster if you notice this behavior in between your regular testing.

Why would you use damsels to cycle a tank when you can just use dead shrimp from the supermarket? It puts unnecessary stress on the damsels... poor fish
