Kirk Hammet during Metallica's first four albums.
Eddie Van Halen beats him after Metallica sold out.
I never really liked Eddie Van Halen...as technically proficient he is, I only thought most of Van Halen's songs were okay. I do like some of their songs though.

ive always liked Kirk Hammet more than Eddie Van Halen. So i would have to say Kirki Hammet - based on my opinion of the SKILL. not who i like.

Kirk produced a unique dark guitar sound perfect for the heavy themes of his songs but nowhere near as technically proficient or innovative as Eddie.
