how fast is it moving?
more than likely we'd all DIE
and there wouldn't me much we could do about it.
it might even take a few months to effect the people on the other side of the earth. (because of dust cloud covers, erratic weather, floods, volcanoes and earth quakes)
my thoughts ----- why do we bring up the USA like its the only bit of land in the WORLD.
the US only covers like 10% of the world--------- what about the other 90%
this would be a GLOBAL catastrophe It could hit China and the US would still feel the effects of 1/8 of the world basically blowing up

We'd all die. Everyone, no matter were you live.
Despite what some answers have said, the speed with which the Moon strikes the Earth would not matter. Even if it landed ever so gently, we're talking about body 1/4 the size of the Earth and 1/80th its mass; the gravitational forces would cause BOTH spheres to lose their shape and merge together. This would catastrophically reshape the surface of the Earth and kill all life in the process.
If, on the other hand, it were to strike very quickly -- like a meteor or comet --then the Moon and the Earth's surface would be instantly vaporized, killing all life on the planet. Then slowly, over time, the vapors would coalesce and the Earth would gradually reform.
Either way, we'd all be dead.

An event such as this would make this planet into a wasteland
and everything on the planet -- including all people -- everywhere -- would perish !!
And, whoever the looney tune is that said "bigger things have hit the earth before" -- is two nickels away from Brain Dead !! Nothing anywhere NEAR the size of the moon has EVER hit this planet !!
The Asteroid that is said to have destroyed the dinasours was only something like a 1/2 mile wide ---- There are rocks on the moon larger than that !!!

If we were to take all the money spent on the space program and used it to house and feed people, in the end, we'd still have starving poor people. The thought that money spent on the space program would be better spent on feeding people overlooks the positive impacts the space program has had on Earth and humans as a whole, but overlooks the fact that the vast majority of starvation on this planet is not due to an actual lack of money or food but to environmental and human created situations such as war, political conflict, disease spread largely by irresponsability, poor planning, drought, and other natueral disasters compounded by lack of perpardedness. The space program, on the other hand, has given us the means to monitor out planet from the sky, which has given us the power to predict the weather like never before, and has allowed us to monitor, and asses damage from natural and manmade distasters alike and to better help us prevent them. That aside, research originally funded under the space program has contributed to mainstream technology and lead to advances in the medical field which has saved numerous lives. People who say the Space Program is a waste of taxpayer money are people who have obviously never actually looked into the matter and think it's nothing more than people spending billions of dollars to floar around the Earth a few times and look at pretty stars.

The Moon is roughly the same size as Australia. If it hit us, we would all die, or the majority of us anyways.
The US isn't the only country in the world - there are larger countries: Russia, China and Canada. Therefore, it would be more likely to hit either of these countries.

I think we'd die. The moon is almost a 1/4 of the Earth's size. I don't think anywhere would be safe.

Considering the fact that most scientists say we wouldn't survive a meteor impact much more than a mile wide, how could we possibly survive something a quarter the size of Earth hitting us?

there would be nowhjere to run to. If the moon hit the earth the entire planet would be destroyed by massive volcanic eruptions scrubbing all life from the surface of the globe.
