Okay, Peeps..first of all....start with the director of the home. Tell her/him all of your complaints and you may even want to type them up in a letter form and have him/her sign that he/she received it from you. SPEAK nicely and firmly that you are not going to tolerate anyone else hurting or ignoring or not watching over this precious woman. NOW, call the Better Business Bureau in the area. Ask them about the home...and find out if there are complaints. Now, ask your Gram's doctor for advice on where to put her if things don't get better. MOST OF ALL, do not stop until she is taken care of. A quick call to a lawyer will get things moving. They usually won't even charge you if there is evidence of neglect. The lawyer is just chomping at the bit to call the home and threaten legal action. My mother had to be placed in a home when she was paralyzed and her last six months were so much better because I wouldn't take "no" for an answer from anyone. Also, you and your family need to be very VISIBLE in the home. Visit often and talk to the nurses, the interns, the aides, and the director almost every time you walk in the door. Moreso than anywhere else in life, the squeaky wheel here will get the oil. Plus, the homes are such lonely places. You can call local churches and ask that they send visitors to her and even community service agencies can visit like the Scouts and high school community service clubs like Beta Club, National Honor Society and Key Club. Show her that she is loved, honored and respected and that you will do all that you can to help her.
