I can't print anything in black at all. Both ink cartridges came with the printer we bought a few weeks ago. I went and printed off (a few weeks ago) about 16 copies of a paper I need for my ap gov. class and about half way through that, it began skipping lines and then stopped working. I turned it off and waited a while and printed again and it was fine. Now it will hardly print anymore. The colored ink works but I need the black ink. Could it be clogged, dirty or no good?
Should I put it in the printer that it came with. We're not using the new printer, we just put the cartridges into the printer we already have (and yes, it's the same printer and uses the same cartridges)

the printer has the ink indicator so i know it's not empty. i'll upload the new printer into the computer and try out the ink on that one.

you should use the new printer... it looks like the old printer has a clogged head... if the ink dried-out in it then that printer is no longer usable and you can dispose of it

I would say that you are out of black ink. Lexmark printers only come with a minimal ink cartridge. If you look at Lexmark ink cartridges in the store, you will notice the word "moderate/medium" and other terms on the label. This tells you that it is not a full cartridge. (yea, stupid) I don't believe the print heads are dired out. The print head on a Lexmark is on the ink cartridge itself. Just in case, run a damp swab over the bottom of the cartridge and reinsert it. You may want to do a print "test page" or clean "nozzle" page.

I used to do countless printing for our community golf equipment I had 2 printers I had the Canon Pixma iP1600 which replaced into undemanding yet solid and that i had the Lexmark X74 and that ran out of ink often regardless of little use. I used to think of it replaced into actually drying up interior the cartridge. I switched to a Samsung laser printer (no longer Lexmark) through fact i replaced into so disillusioned in them
