I am 8 1/2 months pregnant ,i have tried to put foil in the bassinett to deter him, however he thought it was a fun shiny toy and ripped the foil and crib sheet to pieces! i am afraid he will try to jump in there once she is born, he is very cuddly so i am also afraid that he will try to sleep in there with her and accidentally suffocate her. Help!

There are a few things you can try:

-Negative reinforcement. When he jumps into the bassinet, spraw him with water until he jumps out. The only problem with this, is sometimes he only associates the water with you being around and could do it when you aren't.

-Put some blown up balloons in there, when the cat jumps in his claws should pop a balloon and scare him.

- Get some plastic carpet runner. There are plastic nubs on the underside. Flip that over and put it in the bassinet, he shouldn't like the feel of it against his feet.

-If your baby is sleeping in his/her own room, try installing a screen door (if you can) to keep the cat out, but still have access to the smell and noise of the baby.

you can get cover to cover the moses basket from cats as im sure you are aware cats can be highly dangrous to small babies but incidents arent common. I'd try putting the moses basket away from kitty until baby is born as a start so that kitty doesnt feel the baby is stealing his place, if the moses basket an baby come together it is more likely the kitty will accept it isnt his bed and leave well alone, ont allow cat into same room as baby sleeping area as standard and you should be fine. pets are like children too to us i know and with a few simpl precautions the pets dont need to be evicted just cos of a new baby as so commonly happens

I had the same problem. Wash the sheets and keep the bassinet in a room where the cat will never be. Cats are actually afraid of babies. They smell the mother's scent on the baby and where there's a baby, there's a mother.. and momma cats kill cats that get near their babies. I had 3 cats when my son was born and before I had him they'd sleep in his carseat, stroller, bassinet, even on the changing table.. never once did I consider getting rid of my cats. I just did whatever I could to keep them away from my son's stuff!

We have always had cats and had two when my first daughter was born - sadly only one now with my second baby.

I love my cats to bits - but baby comes first: they are just animals after all. However, this doesn't mean get rid of them.

The chances of a cat sleeping on a baby and suffocating it are slim, I beleive, from reading around. The one time our cat jumped into the baby's cot, it made the baby scream and frightened the cat away.

However, this was a one off where I was negligent - every time the cat was found in the crib (without baby) she was ejected very forcibly with much shouting and crossness! (no physical harm to cat) to the extent where she knew she wasn't to get in it for fear of the consequences.

I also kept doors and windows shut so she *couldn't* get in.

Keep your cat away from the baby's stuff and make it clear it is unacceptable behaviour - even if he is used to going where he likes, as ours were.

It is quite possible to have a baby alongside cats - cats just have to know their place.

I'd be getting rid of the cat before the baby is born, truthfully. Cats are sneaky, & when you least expect it, the obvious will happen. For now, keep the bassinette in the nursery or wherever it is with the door closed at ALL times.

you will get duvet to disguise the moses basket from cats as im specific you're conscious cats can be completely dangrous to small toddlers even nevertheless incidents arent organic. i could look at surprising the moses basket clean of kitty till teenager is born as a initiate in order that kitty doesnt evaluate the teenager is stealing his concern, if the moses basket an teenager come jointly that's lots greater probable the kitty will take transport of it isnt his mattress and leave sturdy by ability of myself, ont enable cat into equivalent room as teenager dozing field as extensive-unfold and likewise you will would desire to be high quality. pets are like young toddlers too to us i be attentive to and with a pair of simpl precautions the pets dont must be evicted only cos of a clean teenager as so probable happens

theres the "tents" that you can put over the crib
They almost look like little mosquito nets with zippers, and are meant for keeping pets out of (and baby in) the crib. I think you could probably find them on the "One Step Ahead" website/catalogue, or search another place online.

also get your spray bottle out and everytime the cat goes there spray him
he will learn

Better say adios to your kitty. When it comes to kitty or baby there is really no choice.
