WASHINGTON - Thousands of protesters gathered Saturday outside the White House to demand an end to the Iraq war as counter-protesters rallied to meet them on a planned march to the Capitol.

The rally, organized by the ANSWER Coalition and other groups, was expected to conclude with a march to the Capitol

About 13 blocks away, nearly 1,000 counter-protesters gathered near the Washington Monument, frequently erupting in chants of "U-S-A" and waving American flags.

Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., made a surprise visit to the counter-protest, which was organized by the group Gathering of Eagles. The group was created this year by veterans who wanted to challenge war protesters.

Way to go Duncan Hunter.

As much as I believe people have the right to protest. They have taken it to far with their Anti American crys and willingful desecration of the troops.

I am glad I am not in charge. I would have them hauled in for sedition and treason.

It is not a good thing to root against your country.

appeared to me like they have been having a extraordinarily good time. I desire they might purely write to the congressman nonetheless yet i assume its a unfastened u . s . isn't it. It takes all varieties to make the international bypass around. they did no longer have an extremely good prove. i do no longer tend to get too disillusioned with those products through fact the final public of people, regardless of their social gathering, does not bypass to those issues or placed on clothing that must be seen anti-American. Why call them out and supply them extra interest? Oh, I did see a topless woman. not sure what it quite is meant to advise.

You want to know why the Answer Coaltiotion draws so much in protestors. One it is most likely, I have not looked it up, funded by the Communist Party, two it is because most will find young people, men mostly between the ages of 18-40 along with the old Vietnam bunch of cowards marching because they fear they will be called to arms. I have news for them...if if the Dems are elected in all 3 houses of government they will enact the draft again...and guess what you belly yellow cowards.................you will go...Canada will not accept you, and Mexico is already trying to rid their country of all peoples of all kinds. You are stuck and you will learn to fight in a Dem's war....it aint nothing like the Reps war ....get ready boys, oppps girls too.

As for the counter protesters. this is the problem, we DONT get and out protest. WE DONT march, WE sit our our arsses before the computer and write how horrible things are. Got new for you and US, we will have to gather in the streets and maybe sooner than later, to protect ourselves, cause we were so lazy before, it will come fighting our own now!!!!.

I have marched, I have fought the protesters of the Hillary ilke times and believe me..................I will again stand with the Gathering of Eagles...........they best get ready and do their thing NOW....I am a bit older than the rest of you young people, its your future, your childrens and theirs....you let this the greatest dream for mankind, die ON YOUR WATCH????????????????????????

Protests like these result in little more than making those involved feel better about themselves. They really don't accomplish anything. They never have.

The best way to protest is to vote, be involved in the process by writing your representatives, and with how you spend your dollars.

People protesting on the streets are just seen as total nut-jobs, and are used for propaganda by our enemies. A good definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over, and expecting different results.

Sweetheart, it was an anti-war protest, not anti-USA.

And I did join in. I marched right next to the veterans with an American flag, despite the harassment from the pro-war GOE.

***

Just for those who don't know, the march was led by American veterans, many of whom fought in Iraq.

Right on, Duncan!

I would *never* be in a place that disrespects my country and our military. I think anyone who disses the troops should be tossed out on their butt - they aren't worthy of the sacrifices that have been made on their behalf for the past 230+ years. Idiots.

The ANSWER rally, of course. Along with THOUSANDS of other people. Regardless of whatever pathetic tiny pro-imperialism rally the Republicans can patch together.
