shouldnt you be proud that you've lived another year? i mean, you could die young (not to put anyone down). and adults say they're, say, 40 when they're actually 45. why do adults seem so ashamed of their age?

Because we have such a negative outlook on age. If you are too young we say you are stupid or not able to do certain things. Hence the desire for fake ID's. If you are too old we say you are out of style or out of touch with the times. We assume that getting old makes you less. Less fun. Less passionate. Less understanding. So people lie to feel more valued. Like their opinion matters. Like they still have something to offer. The sad thing is the older I get the more confident I become. The more I care about important things. Age only sheds light on shallowness, vanity, waste and idleness. We should embrace our aging communities instead of disregarding them and listen to their wisdom instead of our own foolishness.

I don't. I'll be 25 in November and everyone thinks I'm about 17. I actually asked a question on here asking how old people thought I was and most people thought that I was about 15-17 yrs old...I think it'll be awesome when I'm 40 and look 30.

You've never thought in your head that someone was old?

I think thats where it comes from, after years of picking on my parents for their age, I don't think I would ever want to admit that I'm at the same age they were when I started calling them old.

I'm 19 right now, but I'll probably stop telling people my real age at 30.

I think that by then, everything that would seem normal to me would be "uncool" to the next generation. Right now, mp3's, technology, is at its best, but in the next coming years everything I know, could be deemed as ancient, I would never want to admit that I'm becoming out of touch with what, ,at one point, was so natural.

Well, they do feel older and this is a complex for them. They can't do what they did before (have fun and all of that). They have seen life the other way round and it's not always pleasant. What was new now becomes old and nothing really makes an impression. They feel they are less attractive and you know why, because they got old faster than they noticed it.

It's not a question of being "ashamed" of one's age. Our society worships youthfulness - you know that. Society stereotypes, labels, pigeonholes someone by age. If you look 40 but are actually 50 and SAY you are 50 - society will limit your movement in applying for jobs, in getting dates, in getting insurance, everything. Age is only one thing about us. There's lots of wonderful things waiting to be discovered inside of us, but people often turn and walk away when they learn of your number - if it's high. It's sad.

that really depends on the person. Often it is because you are put into a slot according to your age and you may not feel you belong their with the others
