Once written, I submit it and that is it.
Sometimes I do edit it when I feel some clarification is needed
or when I feel I should add something.
But that's it, I consider my answers to be honest efforts I am not
ashamed of so I see no reason to delete them .......ever !.
I have however apologized twice for inadvertently abusing someone by clumsily and insensitively composing a question.
My Stupidity was there for all to see, and I felt I had to be man
enough to leave the apology out there.
It would be cowardly to press the delete button .
I only once deleted a question when I submitted a question
meant for mother's day to a friend who had lost her only child
and discovered I was a week too early, as people pointed out
within minutes.
Stupidity once again, but I hadn't checked the exact date
as celebrated in the U.S.A .
And I wanted her to find it as moral support in the morning
as I knew it would be a hard day for her to get trough.
That should teach me to do my homework !!.
Have a nice day, Moon;)

Hi Moon. If I find it is offensive or mean, I usually go back and delete it. If it's some kind of obscure joke, I'll usually leave it and hope someone will understand me, but probably I should delete it. Here is an example. I wrote an answer that was innocent, but so scary that the questioner deleted the whole question! A young woman was writing a story or a novel and she was asking for people to look over a section of her writing, which ended with the words "she fled the square."
Immediately what popped into my mind was a vision of that building outside of Paris (Ministry of Defense?) that looks like a picture frame, and Monty Python's movie "The meaning of Life" which has a skit in it with geriatric pirated hijacking a moving office building. Of course my comments based on that made no sense at all.

Hi there! I'm answering in this section only because the question was from YOU!
I never even thought about deleting an answer & hardly ever pay attention to thumbs down. I DO edit if I feel I wasn't clear. In fact, there was one question where two of us kept responding to each other's edits with edit after edit until it seemed everyone just gave up answering! That was amusing! I give a lot of thought to my answers--some more than others depending on how "serious" they are, so it wouldn't really matter to me if someone didn't agree. Here's a saying my brother & I use, & I hope it will give you a laugh:
"I may not always be right, but I'm never wrong."
You have a wonderful weekend, too, & keep a :) on your face.
Edit: Well, here I am! I've looked at the answers, & want to make it clear, again, that when I edit it's only because I feel clarification of my answer is needed. See Fr.Al...

An answer? I've only did it once and for no other reason than I got to thinking about the question from another angle/perspective and I kinda felt it was the correct one, and then I didn't feel like my answer fit anymore and I didn't feel I like the question anymore, so I just deleted it and went on. Thumbs up are always good to see and thumbs down don't bother me. If you put yourself out there you have to assume the responsibility for both good and bad. Have a great day/evening Moon! :-)

Hi Moon,
The wonderful thing about having so many people to ask questions of is you can get dozens of answers, all different. If one of them means something to the asker or anyone else who reads who's interested, then it's worth it. I've never thought of deleting an answer. I would edit to add to the debate. We're all of us coming from a variety of angles, places and experiences. If I've answered in a way that no one understands I think I'd still leave it.

I agree with Jack B...
Though I really don't base my decision on thumbs down because there are times when I get many even though I feel it is a good answer.
Recently I deleted one I answered for Quella Bella but only because I've been going through personal things lately and knew the response I gave wasn't good enough and I wasn't going to be able to go back and edit it for a while. (Sorry Quella Bella I will still try & respond through email).
& a few weeks back some were deleted for me (violations...I know can you believe that...poor innocent me...LOL)
I will however delete it if lets say (I was in an insomniatic state and I answer a question that I wouldn't normally answer). If I don't delete it right away my special friend Gazpacho brings it to my attention & then I delete it (thanks Gaz for helping me save face).

I'm not sure I've ever deleted an answer. Maybe once or twice, when I realized someone else's answer proved mine to be just plain wrong. Other than that, I leave it there, because you don't get any points off for thumbs down.
P.S. Yes, I will edit if I need to, as I just did here.

If I really like my answer then I will leave it. Sometimes when I go back to it and read it again, I may not like the way I wrote it so I will sometimes delete it or sometimes, I just get so irritated with the questioner and other answerers that I just get disgusted and delete it.

I usually leave the answer there, but will re-visite and edit to clarify or add details and support for the answer I give. Sometimes the answers I give are totally disliked. I see it as an opportunity to maintain and put forward an informed and opposing viewpoint for the education of those reading the answers. ;^}
[I followed Valac Gypsy here and totally agree with her, we've gone through a couple of edit and re-edits together.]

No way I would delete an answer I've given as it's not mine anymore. Once it gets posted, then I already consider it like a public property. And I wouldn't care much whether those who had read it didn't like at all as long as I'd expressed my thoughts, then that would be good enough.
