I find it impossible to pick one favourite novel. Each category of literature is different and appeals at different times. If held down and tortured I would plump for Sarum, the story of Salisbury from the Stone Age to the present.

Gone with the Wind is one of the greatest novels of all time. The movie is great, but leaves so much out. The book is fantastic and a great read.

Personally, the books that have given me the greatest pleasure are the Duncton Chronicles by William Horwood. Although they're technically two trilogies, they work as a complete story, and I continue to love and be absorbed by them no matter how often I revisit them.
