Because she make a huge blunder and over medicated the child, not realizing that there would be lethal results. I do not think she premeditatively killed her daughter, it's more like the parent that inadvertently runs over their child backing out of the driveway in the family station wagon on some mission.
The mission of the McCanns was some respite from their children, which they thought a Valium or similar tranquilizer would take care of nicely.
Sad. Very sad. But also repulsive, as even though they're doctors, they both apparently subscribe to the belief that if a lie is repeated often enough, it will be rendered true.
Meeting the farting, ex Wehrmacht pope was particularly cynical and hypocritical.

I don´t really understand the question. Why I think Kate did it, as opposed to Gerry? Or you want a motive for why Kate did it? Or you think Maddie is still alive and you want to know why anyone might think Kate is responsible?
She didn´t mean to, it wasn´t premeditated. She´s a doctor, and probably thought nothing of administering her kid a dose of sedatives to ensure that Maddie slept soundly whilst she went out drinking with her friends. She did the same a few days before, but Maddie kept crying - the neighbour in the apartment above was concerned. So she probably thought she´d increase the dose a bit. Sadly, that killed Maddie.
They´re doctors, they are not about to turn themselves in for accidently killing their daughter. They don´t want their other kids taken away, or to go to jail in a foreign country, or have their careers ruined. So they feign an abduction.
The campaign to find Maddie took on a life of its own, they just couldn´t bail out, they´ve met the pope!
Remember the Nick Leeson thing and the fall of Barings Bank? He never set out to defraud anyone, he certainly made no money out of it, he simply wanted to help out colleagues that had made a minor error. But that tiny error snowballed and there was no escape, exactly like the McCanns.
When people say "Look at Kate´s face, there is no way she could be lying" she could just as easily be grieving for a child she accidently killed.

I don;t think she did!
BUT
IF she did then I think it would have been accidental. By means of overdose or Maddy having an accident in the resort whilst left unattended.
I don;t even want to consider that Kate McCann would have planned to kill her.
I'm still with the theory that she was abducted.

If she did she's made of stone. No ifs no buts if you accidentally killed the child you loved you must crack at some point unless you are unnatural. Is she?

If you look at earlier answers on here, it says that in the mothers diary entry that she was looking after the children and doing all the chores around the apartment while he was out enjoying the tennis court or swimming pool.
Before i was self employed i used to work 12 hour days and nights, and i can remember my wife used to complain to me when i came home from work about her terrible day as our children were about the same age as theirs are now, and used to play up. In fact i never knew what mood she would be in. The ability to snap is a trait in all of us.
I would think that whatever happened would not have been done maliciously, but what has turned myself and countless others against them is the covering up and everything that they are doing in trying to discredit the police. Maybe they will turn around if they are charged and say that they will not get a fair trial due to the trial by media so to speak, and get away with it.
Myself, i hope they dfo have enough evidence and that they throw the key away.

nobody knows exactly what happened, todays papers said another probability was that she had been weighed down and dumped in the sea, in which case the body will never be found.

i believe the children were given a sleeping potion so that the parents could go out drinking.Poor maddie never woke up and now they try to cover it up.
