You can not use 2 modems on the same connection, they conflict. You need to set up the new one to connect and then connect your machines to it.

Sure, but you need to make sure of a few things.

1. The two routers must have different IP addresses, but be on the same subnet. For example, make the gateway router 192.168.1.1 and the other one 192.168.1.2 .

2. Only the gateway router should be the DHCP server.

3. You may want to make sure that each router is using a different radio channel.

But, I question why you want to use two wireless routers. Is it a range issue (big house)? If it's a matter of available ports, get yourself an Ethernet switch and plug it into one port of the router. I have an Airlink 8-port switch that is regularly on sale at Frys Electronics for under $20. It's worked fine for over a year so far.

You do not want to use two routers on a home network. A router is only used to communicate with the rest of the world and therefore, you only need one. Now I just realized you said they are sending you a Gateway wireless router modem. Is it a router or a modem?
