You need to review your WWII history. Italy and Germany were allies, Germany occupied Italy, Germany and Italy both declared war on the US right after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, FDR had approval from Congress for the invasion of Italy and Japan (if needed)

Completely different set of circumstances. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, Germany and Italy declared war on the United States on December 11th. So, whether or not Italy attacked us is a moot point.

Interesting point, so you're trying to say that's the same as invading Iraq even though they never attacked us.
The difference is that Germany, Italy and Japan had an alliance with each other. In fact, Germany never attacked the US either, and we only invaded them because they were aligned with Japan.
Iraq never had any kind of alliance with Afganistan or Bin Laden. The only similarity was that Saddam and Bin Laden were both Sunni's, but they didn't like each other much and certainly never trusted each other. Saddam didn't help with 911 at all.
The only reason to invade Iraq was to justify the UN security order, but since conservatives hate and villify the UN so much, they didn't want to use that justification, so they made up ridiculous claims (such as WMD's and an Iran - Al Qaeda link) to avoid seeming to endorse the UN which is the bogey man of gun-obsessed people living in trailer parks everywhere.

You must be kidding. Anyway, I suppose it boiled down to two reasons; Italy was a fairly soft spot to bring the war against Hitler on to the continent. And being one of the Axis powers made Italy a perfectly legitimate target. No war crime there.

Nice try.
As you well know, Italy was allied with Germany and both of them were trying to take over all of Europe.
Also, FDR had a formal declaration of war from the Congress, something Dubbya lacks.

3 reasons....
First they had declared war on the US and were an ally of Germany in Europe and North Africa.
Second because it provided a 2nd front in attacking Germany in the event the D Day invasion did not succeed. Germany had to divert troops to its southern flank to guard against an invasion from Italy and through the Alps.
Lastly, the D Day invasion was not ready but Churchill insisted the US put troops in Europe to take the offensive in the war. Thus part of it was political to satisfy our British ally who had taken the brunt of the war to that date.

Italy was allies with Germany and Japan. As the 3 Countries were trying to take over the world.
Italy had already invaded Somolia, and Ethiopia.
