I'm not a prostitute, never have been. I have no idea why a woman (or I guess a man) would choose to do this, BUT-- it's not my place to judge. Period.

Prostitution is 'The Oldest Profession In The World'
It will always be there whilst there is 'supply & demand'.
Our government continue to keep prostitution illegal whilst in the rest of Europe it is licenced, controlled & taxed.
I had a big problem with prostitutes plying thier trade on the street outside my house & they were only doing it for drug money, or because they were under the control of a pimp.
If we had legalised areas where it could happen under control with medicals, taxes & licences there would be no need to use street girls so the demand would die instantly.
To answer your question.... it COULD be ok if it was dealt with properly, but until then, NO.

I have never been a prostitute or been with a prostitute. Nor shall I. I find the whole idea quite weird.
I am a vegetarian and I find the eating of meat repugnant. If I were the Lord-of-all-the-Universe, I should ban meat-eating. Now I know that this is not likely to happen, and even if by some happenstance, the universe got together to elect me to the above vaulted office, would I be right to ban meat eating? Probably not.
You see, in a civilised society, we don’t ban things just because we don’t like them. We should ban things only if they are dangerous or seditious. And even if things are dangerous, but only to those who decide of their own free will to participate in the activity, then we should respect their autonomy and allow them to make their own mistakes.
Otherwise, we would ban smoking because it is dangerous and not just smoking in someone else’s workplace (where the danger is passed on to people who have no say). We would ban mountain climbing and parachuting and deep sea diving and a whole host of things that make life bearable!
And even if we find it unpalatable, some people say that the enjoyment they get from prostitution makes their life bearable; others the money they make from it makes their life bearable.
Of course, there must be caveats. Children, the mentally unwell and the elderly are afforded special protections. We allow pornography when it is made and watched by adults. We forbid pronography when it is made using children. We forbid its screening at times and places that would likely allow children to watch.
As a liberal society, we allow things even when we don’t like them. We should permit prostitution even if we don’t like it. We should protect children, the mentally ill, the unwilling, the elderly and the trafficed from being “used” by others. We should rescue those who are victims.
The more I write, the more I think that we should legalise prostitution so as to better regulate it, protect those who wish to be involved as well as those who wish not to be involved.

Not OK but if going to ever OK, The at lest put them in a safe house far from city limits (schools, parks and residential areas). They should have clean bill of health, mandatory check ups, drug testing. No street prostitution or pimps at all.
We may not want or like this profession but let's be real here!
I didn't ever feel comfortable about abortions being excepted by law. Then again it is their body, their choice not our, when all said and done.
Just one persons opinion for all it's worth.

Prostitution in America is definitely NOT okay.
It has been forced underground by the "freedom to oppress others by legislation policy" in the U.S..
Oh wait...You mean, "is it okay MORALLY?"
That would depend on your philosophical sensibilities, now wouldn't it? The fairest way to look at is that whenever you work for money, you are selling your mind, body, and time (genitals included, at no extra charge,) and agreeing to perform acts that may offend you or denigrate your dignity, (cow-killer or porn-store janitor are jobs that come to mind, as well as ad executive,) for a fee...Someone pays you to use your mind and body for a specified purpose. You have the freedom to choose to accept or decline this agreement.

Prostitution goes way back to biblical days it's the oldest way of women earning money... but personally i think it's wrong for a woman to disrespect herself in such a way... hope your not thinking about it remember self respect, and self preservation always come first.

It is the oldest profession.
If that is what a person chooses to do who am I to tell them it is not acceptable? I don't have to agree with what everyone does - that is why we are supposed to be a free nation.
Having said that, I don't think people should break the law and prostitution is illegal in the USA. (but not all over the world)

For something that raises so many Strong opinions usually Against this, Let me call it Life Style, has been around for a Hell of a Long Time
It serves a purpose and is Impossible to irradicate, even in countries that have stringent punishments both for the Pro and the customer it is still practised
In my opinion as long as the person involved isnt Forced into it by others therefore is acting from their own free will then
GOOD LUCK to them

Ok and a persons personal choice. SLAVERY is never ok in any form or manner. Outlawing prostitution = a form of slavery by means of a system designed to keep women down and subservient and slaves to a male dominated system. Not OK.

It seems that quite a few of the women who are forced into this are drug addicts and have no other way to feed their habit, apart from robbery.
What else can we suggest? Legalise drugs so they don't have to go on the game?
I don't like prostitution myself either, but it exists.

It is said to be the oldest profession. There seems to be a need for it.
I think if it was legalised then the prostitutes and those that use them would be much safer.
Physically safe and free from the chance of contacting any sexually transmitted diseases.
