I think that the subfloor is damaged as well...it has a bump in it now....I am heartsick...we don't have the money to pull it all up and replace it. It goes all the way through my entryway, halls, dining and kitchen.... :(

Did it get wet through a catastrophic event or over a long period of time? If it was the first, and you don't want to call a water extraction service, buy a dehumidifier and let it run in the area. Close all the doors into that area so you don't try to dehumidify the whole house. Running a fan on the floor can help also. I've seen some floors that were humped up 6 to 12 inches high dry out and go back down. If it has polyurethane on it you may need to sand the poly off so the water won't be trapped. Check to see whether your homeowners insurance will cover your loss.
