While I certainly empathize with the McCann family, I also find it blatantly unfair that this one little girl should be the focus of an advertising and publicity campaign, using funds donated by the general citizenry and several celebrities.
That money would be better used to create awareness of ALL the children that have been abducted, killed or simply disappeared. I certainly can't imagine what the parents are going through, nor can I imagine what any other parents might endure should their child vanish.
It's appalling that many governments (state, local, and federal) often dedicate more resources to finding stolen cars, harassing prostitutes and drug dealers, apprehending drunk drivers or ticketing people for not wearing a seat belt than they spend on trying to find missing children and their captors. -RKO- 09/15/07
