It really appears as if the rest of the world has decided our days as the lone superpower are numbered.China,Russia,Europe and Asia are all preparing for a world without American supremacy. They have begun to forge alliances and economic treaties that not only do not include the United States, many dismiss the USA as unimportant in the scheme of things.

We are stuck to Iraq while the rest of the world is moving on..

The incompetence of the neoconservatives has done what the USSR could not do,what Al Qaeda cannot do,and that is the defeat of the United States as the world's only superpower.

And the most hideous aspect to all of this are the millions who fell into line, screaming"traitor"at anyone who dared point oput the dangerous path they were taking, while along it was and is there arrogance and lack of foresight which is bringing on the end of American supremacy.

How can the right defend the damage they have brought on our country?

Unfortunately I think you are correct. How can the right defend the damage they have brought on your country?
They are stuck in their own fantasy world where Bush is the best President ever,Iraq had WMD and the war is a great success.Living in that illusion that's confirmed and justified by fox news, talk radio and various Internet blogs is what makes them defend the party line.
The reason it's hard for them to leave this reality is a psychological condition known as denial.
There are several defining characteristics that identify the possibility that a patient may be in denial. Some examples include pretending something does not exist when in reality it does. Being willing to admit there is a problem, but unwilling to see the severity of it. Seeing the problem as being caused by something or someone else. The behavior is not denied, but its cause is someone else's responsibility. Offering excuses, alibis, justifications, and other explanations for behavior. Dealing with the problem on a general level; avoiding personal and emotional awareness of the situations or conditions. Changing the subject to avoid threatening topics. Becoming angry and irritable when reference is made to the condition. These defining characteristics help to avoid the issue at hand

The U.S. in the last 60 years or so has been like a big, ugly dog that the other English-speaking countries and Europe keep around to scare away the "monsters" (hard-core communist countries, Middle East, etc.)

The other English-speaking countries and Europe have good things for their own citizens, like health cost coverage and pensions. The U.S. doesn't, because in the name of "empire" we waste all our money on warmaking equipment.

Well, empires always fall. Look at the Roman Empire. Look at the British Empire. I believe we will lose our "empire" or "superpower" status in the next 50 years - and I for one think that's a GOOD thing.

I'm tired of being the big ugly dog. I'm tired of our own people not having the things we need because right-wing ideologues want to waste all our money on conquering the world.

Wonderful question, and your observations are spot-on!!

America will be brought to its knees by the blind nationalism of the Republican party and anyone else who has been short-sighted and disdainful enough of the rest of the world to, foolishly, under-estimate the resources of the international community... and it's resolve.

Any American who thinks that the world will simply lay there as the United States serves itself to whatever it desires... is in for a very rude awakening.

Just the economic alliance recently formed between China and Russia is enough to marginalize the U.S. in terms of the Global economy.

The U.S. needs to respect the other players internationally and commit to being a good and cooperative neighbor... for the good of everyone. Not just Americans.

It's a global society now.

America is not defined by the economies of other countries or their cultures. America is defined by Americans. We were, are, and always will be a great nation because of that.
