It would be cool to go to Mars just to explore caves, but that would probably fall into the category of a Geologists job right?

Caves may be a potential site for the first colonies or bases on Mars.

It would be easier to seal a cave than to create completely separate "biodome", "bubble" or other structure there.

And as someone else alluded to, it would be a logical place to look for an surviving microbial life.

There is also some evidence that Martian caves are a source of methane gas. whether this is from vulcanic activity or biological processes would be exciting to find out.

As the picture and map-making technology improves, more mars caves will be discovered.

I would go to explore them in a heartbeat if I could!

Perhaps all the assumptions of the existence of intelligent life on Mars would be answered by such exploration. If indeed the planet was laid barren by some kind of astronomical collision thousands of centuries in it's past then perhaps there were survivors that were able to escape the destruction by going deep underground even predicting that they would have to do so before the catastrophic event. Just something to ponder!?!

From what i understand about Mars is that it was once very active volcano's, so i don't see why there wouldn't be old lava tubes or large empty magma chambers like in some places like on earth, also i there is life of any sort on Mars there is a good chance that it would be found underground in caves or lava tubes.

actually the majority of caves are formed by the seeping of liquid water. Mars certainly has less liquid water than earth so probably has fewer caves than earth.
but it would still be great to explore what it may have...
