why arent most people comfortable with nudity in public?

Question

shdnt we be able to walk around naked if we wanted to?i mean its only natural (i'm not saying i want to do so though).
please give a better reason than: it affects other peoples rights.

I am 54 and have been a nudist since I was 10.So the human body is to me a normal sight.
But our society has the thoughts that if you go nude then you will have sex.But if the chemistry is not there nothing will happen.
Why do people get offended I can't say but those I have heard seem to point out that the body itself is offensive,I don't see it but then I have gone nude fo more than 40 years.
Besides the sight of someone in a 2 peice swim suit is more so erotic erotic as what they have is covered thus a mystery where as a nudist you know what they have.
But bottom line is you have to be comfortable.

I AGREE! The only reason Public Nudity is a big deal is because some prudes make it a big deal. I do think that when naked in public one should carry a towel or some cloth to put down before you sit though, just good public hygiene and keeps your butt cleaner.
The fashion designers and clothing manufacturers of course would oppose such a thing.
It would be a big boon to the beauty and fitness industry, everyone would be trying to get their bodies in shape so they won't feel so self conscious in public. That should go a long way in combating obesity.
If nudity was just considered normal, it wouldn't be a big deal.
I would like to be able to go naked anywhere I wanted to, I look good naked and I'm naked right now.

People have been taught the nudity is wrong. It is natural. Whether you believe in Genesis, Creationism, or both, we all started out naked. It was how nature meant for us to be.
Some people say, "I don't want to see certain people naked." Believe I would rather see some over weight person naked than attempting to squeeze into clothes that are too small.
Nudity is not the big deal people make it out to be and it is not equal to sex. Another misnomer.
If public nudity was allowed there would be less crime, no hidden weapon. No fashion flops. Just good wholesome fun.

Because for years Religious people have stuck to the interpretation of the Old Testament and the story of Adam and Eve. Because the church has had a strong influence over courts and whatever was ruling at the time their views have deceided what went on therefore clothes are the order of the day.

Because most people don't look that great naked, for a start! Also, for most of the world it's too damn cold to go without clothes and they are there to protect us, anyway. Lastly, not everyone wants to see everyone else's dangly bits, or have their own seen, for that matter. Perhaps people like to keep that kind of intimacy for their lovers.

mayb the initial reason to wear clothes was to protect our body from different types of bacteria and stuff, think about going to go sit down on the swing at the park. can u imagine how much germs r going to be on ur butt

I think one reason is just that we're not accustomed to it. We've been wearing clothes for so long, as a matter of necessity, that not wearing clothes seems abnormal. You're right though, we should be able to be naked if we want to.

The argument about children is bogus, of course - they don't care what people wear or don't wear.

well I dont want my kids to walk down the street looking @ Pu$$ies and tities all day, and also where is there room for imagination when ppl already see what you have?
I want people to wonder what I have under my clothes, ya know, not just showing it to random people all the time.

when you say walk around naked do you mean outside? no, why because i don't want to see everybody w/o clothes honey, i don't care how fit a person is no one looks that good that i want to see them walking up in the local mall genitals out! eeewww!!!!

i don't mind if its a pretty woman, don't care to see men walking around nude, although they already walk around half nude anyway (no shirt). but i agree that it probably doesn't hurt anything if people want to do that.... oh yeah, because of the hygeine issues, that's why it might not be a good idea.
