Hi I have a Fantasy Novel (The Red Stone) coming out soon (November 15th) and I was wondering if any of you have gone though promoting your own book or someone else's? And even if you have done neither of things your tips or suggestions will be most welcome. Here's a link if you want to check it out: http://www.stonegarden.net/index.php?main_page=product_book_info&products_id=72&zenid=4905fc0ff7cc9f2f805fc5513650f4e8

I've recently been busy promoting my fiance's latest books. Among things I've done are set up signings at local libraries & book stores & set up interviews with magazines & newspapers. I've also contacted various radio & TV stations, although I haven't rec'd much feedback from them. I also put fliers in windows of (new & used) book stores & I manage his website (keeping it up to date w/his most recent publishings.) I've also donated copies of his books to local libraries whenever I travel & hand out his bookmarks (to interested parties I've spoken with.) It can be a lot of work, but every little bit helps.

There is a lot you have to do to promote a book. It's good that you are thinking ahead before it's released. First find your audience and start communicating with them. You can find them off and online. Your local newspaper will be a great avenue to get some free promotion. Start preparing your Press Release and contact them letting know about "the local author releasing his book". I'm leaving you with couple of sites that might be of help to you. One is dedicated to authors with a lot of information and tools for promotions and the other one for readers. Wishing you success!

If you are 'self publishing' or must promote your book by yourself, the FIRST thing to do is to contact the stores that offer 'readings' by the authors. Also try to contact any television or radio stations to get a 'spot' on one of their shows to do your 'promotion' ... many 'news shows' have writers promoting their books, with the reporter 'asking questions' about the book. Good luck ...

If you happen to know a ghost writer, they should know.
